FUN FOR ALL AGES AT THE PORTER 4TH OF JULY FESTIVAL!

A day long 4th of July Festival will be hosted by the Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club and the Porter Parks Department to celebrate Independence Day. Everyone is welcome! The festivities begin with the Lions Club pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. until noon at Hawthorne Park. Other activities include the Lions Club Turtle Derby at 11 a.m. (registration starts at 9:30 a.m.). Throughout the afternoon there are games and activities for kids and families including Patriotic Poster Contest (1 -3 p.m.) and the ever-popular Brick Toss Contest at 3 p.m. Both events are hosted by Porter Parks Dept. Everyone will enjoy DJ Gil Lewis’s karaoke from 3-5 p.m. and Janky Limo band from 6-10 p.m. Janky Limo is part fancy, part funky and always a good time! You’ll hear songs you know, songs you think you know, and songs you’ll want to get to know better. Fireworks begin shortly after dusk.

Leroy’s will host a beer garden in the park throughout the afternoon and evening and there will be plenty of great food available from Dori’s Elephant Ears & Funnel Cakes, Leroy’s Hot Stuff, Rudy’s Bar-B-Que, Kona Ice, and Val’s Famous Pizza & Grinders starting at noon.

Visit the Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial Wall at the 4th Fest that was designed to travel to communities throughout the United States. Since its dedication, The Wall That Heals has been displayed at nearly 700 communities throughout the nation, spreading the Memorial’s healing legacy to millions. The traveling exhibit provides thousands of veterans who have been unable to cope with the prospect of facing The Wall to find the strength and courage to do so within their own communities, thus allowing the healing process to begin.
